Eugène Van Hove

Eugène Van Hove lived in Antwerp. In December 1927, he started work on the Belgenland, which departed on a world cruise.

He was the ‘writer’, meaning that he was in charge of the passenger records. Contact with the passengers was not all roses: he claimed that they would come and ‘bother him incessantly’ with ‘stupid questions’. His diary and photograph album give an insight into the beautiful and not-so-beautiful moments of a writer on board.
