Today the Eilandje is a thriving city neighbourhood on the water. The area around the Old Docks, with the MAS | Museum aan de Stroom as its new architectural beacon, is Antwerp’s new hotspot. The Montevideo area, which is near the Old Docks, is the setting of the Red Star Line Museum. This part of town is currently being developed. In the not-too-distant future, this area will be the cultural axis of the Eilandje.
In the neighbourhood
You can find traces of the shipping company only a stone’s throw away from the museum. Walk over to the former departure point of the Red Star Line ocean steamers before or after visiting the museum.
